Massimo Rao

Massimo Rao, a young Italian artist who lived and worked in Umbria, north of Rome tragically died at the early age of 47 in 1996. He painted in the style of the old masters. His canvases couple the mood and spirit of the Italian school of the 16th and 17th centuries with a contemporary viewpoint. The moon faces that dominate much of his work cast an old, all-knowing presence in the haunting landscapes of dreams known but forgotten. CFM has a limited number of paintings and original stone lithographs available by this talented, haunting, artist.

The major retrospective at the PANORAMA Museum in Bad Frankenhausen, Germany
October 2, 2004 through January 9, 2005
has closed.

I had the extreme pleasure of visiting the Exhibition. It was superb! A wonderful retrospective that touched on all aspects of Massimo's work, Put together with consumate taste and respect for Massimo, it was worth the journey to Bad Frankenhausen.

They produced a magnificent catalog in a limited run of 500. Text is in German, Italian and English. The gallery has obtained some copies and they are available on a first-come-first-serve basis. The supply is not large and if you wish to obtain one you should do so quickly, before they are all sold out. The price for the 208 page catalog (the edition is limited to 500 and it will not be reprinted) is now $750.00.
