Lilly Yeh, my professor of art history at The Philadelphia College of Art, would often say, "You can tell the true nature of a culture by how they treat their women." and she would speak of the decadence of the Han Dynasty, when consumption was erotic. Like Lilly Yeh, Lau Lu La Toy is a close observer of mores whoe hope to profit from exotic American styles. To that end, her granddaughter is here packaged as a consumer confection. In the market, she asks of passersby, "Isn't she a perfect little doll for the rich soon-to-be-husband? She bring much luck to family."
